Apple Details iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max With A20 Pro Chip and Extended Battery Life
Announced alongside the foldable iPhone Duo at John Ternus' debut keynote, the new Pro models feature variable aperture cameras, faster charging, and up to 45 hours of video playback.

Apple introduced its latest flagship smartphones, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, during its "Surprise and Shine" event, marking John Ternus' debut keynote as chief executive officer. While Apple's first foldable device, the iPhone Duo, led the presentation, the standard Pro lineup received notable silicon and endurance upgrades, according to reporting by Engadget (https://www.engadget.com/2276013/iphone-18-pro-vs-max-comparison/).
The two new Pro handsets share most internal hardware and visual styling, with display dimensions, battery longevity, and a $100 price difference serving as the primary distinctions. The iPhone 18 Pro features a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max includes a 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR screen.
Both devices run on Apple's new A20 Pro chip, which the company claims is its most powerful and efficient mobile processor to date, designed to handle gaming and demanding artificial intelligence workloads. The camera array across both models includes 48-megapixel sensors, optical zoom, and variable aperture mechanisms for manual controls and low-light performance. Both models are sold in Silver, Black, Glacier, and Burgundy finishes.
Battery endurance represents the most substantial hardware shift. Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro for up to 36 hours of video playback, compared to 33 hours on the iPhone 17 Pro. The device can charge to 50 percent in 15 minutes over a 60W-capable USB-C connection, or in 30 minutes using certified MagSafe wireless chargers.
The larger iPhone 18 Pro Max delivers up to 45 hours of video playback—a six-hour increase over the iPhone 17 Pro Max that Apple describes as the largest single battery life increase in the iPhone's history. Apple also claims a five-minute wired charge provides seven hours of playback. The 45-hour rating surpasses the 44-hour playback rating of the newly announced foldable iPhone Duo on its outer screen.
