Apple Prepares Smart Home Reboot with HomeView Hub and Hardware Partnerships Ahead of NYC Event
Reports from Bloomberg and MacRumors point to an A18-powered central controller, third-party accessories with LG, and updated Apple TV hardware.

Apple is preparing to host a 'Welcome Home' launch event in New York City, where the company is anticipated to introduce a renewed smart home strategy, according to reporting from Mashable Tech (https://mashable.com/tech/apple-returns-to-smart-home-ecosystem-with-upcoming-welcome-home-event). The presentation follows more than a decade of limited market share in connected home hardware since the debut of Apple's HomeKit software framework in 2014.
Unlike competitors Google and Amazon, which expanded their connected footprint by acquiring thermostat manufacturer Nest Labs and video doorbell maker Ring, Apple largely avoided major smart home acquisitions. The company's prior internal hardware pushes, including the original HomePod smart speaker introduced in 2018, struggled to achieve broad commercial adoption.
According to reporting from Bloomberg correspondent Mark Gurman, Apple is expected to introduce an integrated lineup anchored by a new smart home controller named HomeView. The device is anticipated in both free-standing tabletop and wall-mounted formats, featuring an A18 processor, a dedicated display, and voice control functionality. Gurman reported that HomeView is designed to coordinate connected accessories, including smart locks and video doorbells developed in partnership with LG.
A separate report from MacRumors indicates that Apple may also announce a collaboration with home security provider ADT, though specific technical integrations and commercial terms remain speculative.
Beyond the central hub, Gurman reported that Apple plans to introduce a revised Apple TV media player, representing the device line's first hardware update in two years. Expected changes include a faster system chip, expanded chassis color options, and integrated microphones for improved Siri voice input. While Apple has not confirmed commercial availability dates, Gurman expects the updated Apple TV and a new HomePod model to ship and arrive in retail stores on Oct. 30.
