Breville Introduces $600 Automated Pour-Over Machine with Integrated Grinder

While automated drip systems have long sought to approximate pour-over brewing, Breville's machine incorporates an integrated grinder directly above a conical dripper. The grinder relies on bespoke 40-millimeter flat burrs, discharging grounds directly into the brew basket before extraction begins.

To mimic the technique of a human barista, water is dispersed through an articulating spout that travels in a motorized spiral pattern across the coffee bed. Breville claims its internal heating element achieves brewing temperatures within seconds and maintains thermal stability across multiple pouring intervals.

Brewing parameters can be customized via a built-in display and interface. In addition to basic cup volume and strength selections, the machine includes an Advanced Edit mode allowing users to configure grind size, water-to-coffee ratios, water temperatures, and pause times between individual pours. Custom parameter sets can be saved as discrete recipes, and a Delayed Auto Start setting allows automated brewing at scheduled times.

The machine enters a niche premium segment, targeting consumers who want the extraction characteristics of manual pour-overs without manual timing and water pouring. The Spiral Luxe Auto Pour Over is currently available for $600 directly from Breville and through Williams-Sonoma.
