Ambrosia Energy Begins Building 10 GWh Texas Battery Plant for Data Centers
The Swarm co-founders aim to deliver round-the-clock power to off-grid facilities using custom solar and battery infrastructure.

Ambrosia Energy has started construction on a 10 gigawatt-hour battery manufacturing plant near Austin, Texas, co-founder and chief executive Ben Longmier announced on stage at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, as reported by TechCrunch (https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/14/ambrosia-energy-will-build-a-10-gwh-factory-in-texas-to-make-batteries-for-off-grid-data-centers/).
The 150,000-square-foot factory is planned to reach full production within two to three years. Longmier said the facility's output will allow Ambrosia to build roughly 300 megawatts of power plant capacity annually across its project sites.
Founded by Longmier and Sara Spangelo—who previously founded satellite constellation startup Swarm before selling it to SpaceX—Ambrosia emerged from stealth in June. The startup designs dedicated solar and battery installations intended to supply data centers at an electricity cost of $100 per megawatt-hour.
Ambrosia also plans to start construction on its first commercial installation in West Texas later this year. That project is designed to combine 300 megawatts of solar capacity with 660 megawatt-hours of battery storage to provide 30 megawatts of continuous power with a 99.3% uptime target. Longmier said sections of an earlier pilot facility have run continuously for more than 100 days, delivering 200 kilowatts round the clock.
To reach its pricing targets, Ambrosia simplifies structural components and manufactures battery packs internally from standard cells rather than purchasing integrated stationary storage systems. Longmier claimed the startup's pack design contains roughly 100 times fewer parts than competing hardware, keeping pack-level costs to approximately 1.3 times the cell cost, compared to a five- to seven-fold multiple common across the stationary storage industry.
