Binance Appoints Justin Yek as CFO Following $6.3B Hack as Kaiser Ng Steps Down
The cryptocurrency exchange named former Airwallex executive Justin Yek to succeed Ng under a six-month transition framework.
Binance Holdings Ltd. has named Justin Yek as its new chief financial officer, replacing outgoing finance head Kaiser Ng days after the cryptocurrency platform suffered a $6.3 billion hack.
As reported via Techmeme (https://www.techmeme.com/261107/p13#a261107p13) based on reporting originating from Bloomberg, Binance said Ng is leaving the exchange to "pursue a new venture." The company stated that Ng will participate in a six-month transition plan to hand over the finance helm.
Ng departs after more than five years leading Binance's finance department, having originally joined the exchange following an earlier role at Kraken. His successor, Yek, joins the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange from cross-border payments and financial infrastructure platform Airwallex.
The executive transition places Yek at the helm of Binance's balance sheet during an acute operational crisis. The company now faces the double task of executing its leadership handover while navigating the fallout from one of the largest security breaches in the digital asset sector's history.
