Quantum Computing Inc. (QCi) and clinical-stage biotechnology firm INmune Bio have agreed to test whether quantum optimization and artificial intelligence can uncover new therapeutic applications for XPro, an investigational Alzheimer's drug candidate, according to a report by Tech Startups (https://techstartups.com/2026/10/14/quantum-computing-meets-alzheimers-research-as-inmune-bio-and-qci-team-up-to-explore-new-treatments/).

The initial-stage agreement marks QCi's first commercial engagement in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector. Financial terms were not disclosed, though the contract includes options to expand the collaboration as research progresses.

Under the partnership, the companies plan to feed data from INmune Bio's preclinical studies, four clinical trials, and public biomedical databases into QCi's Dirac-3S machine. The Dirac-3S is an entropy-based quantum optimization system that operates at room temperature rather than requiring cryogenic cooling. Researchers intend to search for correlations across patient subgroups, disease phenotypes, and biomarkers to identify additional conditions that might respond to XPro's biological mechanism.

XPro is an investigational biologic designed to selectively neutralize soluble tumor necrosis factor (TNF), an inflammatory protein, while sparing trans-membrane TNF pathways necessary for normal immune function. INmune Bio is preparing a Phase 2b/3 trial of XPro in early Alzheimer's patients with elevated neuroinflammation, and is evaluating whether the drug could also treat rare neurological or pediatric disorders that qualify for regulatory Priority Review Vouchers.

Crucially, the project is structured as a comparative evaluation rather than an assumption of quantum superiority. The research team plans to benchmark findings from the Dirac-3S directly against classical statistical methods and conventional machine-learning models to assess whether quantum optimization offers measurable advantages in pattern discovery.

Neither company has reported empirical evidence of quantum advantage in this workflow, and the collaboration has not yet produced clinically validated new indications for XPro, which remains an unapproved investigational therapy.
