Preventative healthcare is attracting substantial venture backing as startups seek to build businesses around whole-body scanning and early diagnostics. Neko Health, co-founded by Spotify founder Daniel Ek, has raised $700 million to scale its body-scanning platform, reflecting an intensifying investment wave in early health monitoring.

The sector has seen interest expand beyond dedicated medical startups. Artificial intelligence research lab Midjourney is developing its own body scanner, while diagnostic startup Function Health has also raised significant capital to build out its preventative health platform.

The rationale behind these capital commitments and the hurdles confronting the sector were outlined on a recent episode of TechCrunch’s Equity podcast, reported by TechCrunch Venture (https://techcrunch.com/podcast/the-investor-behind-neko-healths-700m-bet-on-scanning-your-whole-body/). Farooq Abbasi, founder and general partner of Preface Ventures and an investor in Neko Health, discussed how Neko compares with other consumer-health startups with reporter Dominic-Madori Davis.

A central challenge for Neko Health and its peers remains translation into mainstream clinical practice. While consumer interest drives initial adoption, expanding the reach of preventative scanning will depend on establishing the technical and institutional pathways necessary for full-body scanners to integrate into the broader healthcare system.
