Meta Launches Enterprise AI Unit Led by Former MongoDB Chief CJ Desai

Meta Platforms Inc. has launched a new commercial business unit to deliver artificial intelligence software and services to corporate customers, according to reporting by SiliconANGLE (https://siliconangle.com/2026/09/28/meta-hires-mongodb-ceo-cj-desai-to-lead-new-enterprise-ai-business/). The new group, named the Meta Enterprise Platform, will be led by longtime enterprise executive CJ Desai as chief enterprise platform officer.

Desai moves to Meta after an 11-month tenure as chief executive of database provider MongoDB Inc. Shares of MongoDB fell more than 18% following news of his departure. MongoDB stated that Dev Ittycheria, who led the company for 11 years before Desai took over, has returned to serve as interim CEO.

Meta said the new division will initially focus on expanding enterprise and developer adoption of its Muse agent ecosystem. The go-to-market portfolio includes the Muse application programming interface (API), which provides access to Meta's underlying large language models, as well as specialized tools such as Muse Code and Meta Business Agent.

Muse Code, which Meta rolled out in August, includes an agent fan-out capability that distributes complex programming tasks across multiple subagents to speed up code execution. Meta Business Agent is a customer-facing chatbot designed for WhatsApp that answers product questions, offers purchasing recommendations, and resolves select technical issues.

The commercial push follows the debut of Meta's Muse Spark 1.3 model earlier this month. Meta reported that the model surpassed GPT-5.6 Sol on the AutomationBench knowledge-work benchmark and scored higher on five coding benchmarks. According to the company, Muse Spark 1.3 uses roughly 25% fewer tokens than its predecessor on programming workloads, partly because it limits reliance on external tools.

“Meta Enterprise Platform will focus on turning its AI stack into products and services that companies can deploy for their own businesses,” Desai said in a statement. “As with Muse, security and privacy are built into Meta’s enterprise products from the outset.” Meta also plans to roll out a feature called Muse Confidential VM later this year to isolate customer instances from Meta's internal systems, alongside continuous auditing capabilities.

The enterprise strategy may also reach into hardware infrastructure. In July, Bloomberg and CNBC reported that Meta plans to sell surplus data center capacity to third-party enterprises.
