Meta has open-sourced code and software development kits allowing developers to build custom hardware powered by its Muse artificial intelligence agent, as reported by The Verge (https://www.theverge.com/tech/1004330/meta-muse-ai-gadgets-home-link).

The developer tools allow integration with off-the-shelf ESP32 microcontrollers and Raspberry Pi single-board computers, connecting the Muse agent to displays, buttons, sensors, and actuators. Meta suggested several implementation examples, including loading Muse onto color E Ink displays for reminders, streaming it over HDMI to larger screens, or building compact touchscreen units.

"Muse gadgets are open source devices you build yourself," Meta stated in release documentation. "Program an off-the-shelf ESP32 board or set up a Raspberry Pi with our SDKs, then connect Muse to your displays, buttons, sensors, actuators, and whatever else you’ve got lying on your workbench." The company added a note advising developers to "Proceed at your own risk!"

Alongside the open-source code, Meta is distributing a pre-assembled hardware unit called the Muse Home Link. The device uses community-developed skills to handle domestic automation tasks, including controlling lighting, managing television sets, and sending documents to printers.

Meta produced 5,000 Muse Home Link units, according to Nat Friedman of Meta Superintelligence Labs. A waitlist is currently open for developers ahead of planned shipments later this month.
