OpenAI’s 110 London employees received an average of approximately £2.3 million each in 2025 across salaries and share awards, according to financial filings from OpenAI UK Ltd reported by The Guardian and detailed by The Next Web (https://thenextweb.com/news/openai-london-staff-pay-2-3m-accounts).

Total compensation across the UK subsidiary reached £255 million, comprising £87 million in base salaries and £168 million in equity grants. The overall average increased from £1.1 million per worker the previous year, standing at 58 times the median earnings of a full-time UK worker based on figures from the Office for National Statistics. Remuneration was distributed unevenly across the workforce, with the largest compensation packages directed to research scientists building foundational AI models.

The financial filings show OpenAI UK Ltd more than tripled its annual turnover to £293 million in 2025, generating a net profit of £20.3 million. London serves as OpenAI’s largest research hub outside the United States and also houses sales, marketing, and government affairs operations. Former UK Chancellor George Osborne joined the unit in December as head for countries.

To accommodate ongoing expansion, OpenAI is preparing to move from its current Westminster office to a new headquarters in King’s Cross, the London district that also houses Google DeepMind. The compensation disclosures reflect a fierce industrywide bidding war for artificial intelligence researchers, during which rivals such as Meta offered multi-year packages valued in the hundreds of millions of dollars. The UK filings arrive as parent company OpenAI pursues new funding at a $1.4 trillion valuation ahead of an anticipated stock market listing.
