Salesforce-owned workplace communication platform Slack announced a set of new artificial intelligence features designed to turn the software into a centralized operational hub for corporate automation. Revealed during Salesforce's Dreamforce conference, the updates focus on expanding the capabilities of the platform's native AI assistant, Slackbot.

Speaking at the event, Rob Seaman, Executive Vice President and General Manager at Slack, framed the software updates around position the product as "the front door to the agentic enterprise." The overarching strategy seeks to embed automated workflows directly into team chats, reducing the need for employees to toggle between disparate enterprise systems.

Chief among the announcements is a two-way voice conversation tool for Slackbot. As first reported by TechRadar Pro, users will soon be able to issue natural-language spoken requests to the assistant, which can respond audibly and execute enterprise tasks. For instance, a professional traveling between business engagements could verbally instruct Slackbot to advance a deal's status in a customer database without typing.

During an on-stage presentation at Dreamforce, the voice feature experienced minor processing delays while gathering requested information and formulating answers. However, Slack maintains the feature is still classified as "coming soon," indicating ongoing technical refinement prior to a general release.

Alongside conversational voice controls, Slack revealed a custom workspace feature called Surface. The tool allows users to instruct Slackbot on specific operational needs, prompting the AI to automatically construct a live, interactive dashboard. Slack described these dynamic environments as places where teams can simultaneously filter data, review notes, and initiate workflow actions.

Slack is also expanding Slackbot's generative features to encompass media creation. Under the new tools, team members can build video clips and presentation slide decks directly within the messaging client, eliminating the need to export assets from third-party presentation applications.

To facilitate group collaboration, the platform will now allow teams to tag Slackbot directly within public or private channels. Mentioning the AI assistant in a shared conversation enables all members of the group to see, evaluate, and act upon the bot's generated responses in real time.

The product enhancements reflect Salesforce's broader goal of positioning Slack as an AI-driven command center for workplace operations, directly competing against enterprise software suites from Microsoft and Google that are similarly embedding generative agents across their enterprise apps.
