Clear Secure Delivers Strong Q2 Profit Expansion While Guidance Signals Slower Trajectory
The biometric identity provider surpassed its long-term EBITDA margin targets and raised full-year cash flow forecasts, even as third-quarter projections point to decelerating top-line momentum.

Clear Secure Inc. (NYSE: YOU) delivered strong second-quarter financial results driven by expanding subscriber totals and higher margins, but the identity platform operator issued third-quarter guidance that signals a notable cooling in its revenue and bookings trajectory.
The airport identity verification provider reported quarterly revenue of $277.8 million on August 5, marking a 26.6% increase compared to the same period a year earlier. Total bookings, which company executives monitor as an indicator of future revenue trends, rose 32.8% year-over-year to $295.9 million. The growth was propelled by an expanding user network, with total CLEAR members reaching 43.5 million as of June 30, up 30% from the prior year. Meanwhile, active CLEAR+ subscribers grew 15.2% to 8.3 million.
During the second quarter, Clear Secure continued to expand its physical infrastructure across domestic travel hubs. The company introduced CLEAR+ lanes in Northwest Arkansas and Indianapolis, bringing its total airport network to 62 locations. It also operated 280 retail sites facilitating enrollment for the TSA PreCheck program. Technology deployments progressed as well, with automated eGates active across 50 airports as of August 5 ahead of a planned nationwide rollout later this year. Additionally, the firm extended its premium Concierge service to 39 airport locations.
Profitability metrics outpaced revenue gains during the quarter. Operating income came in at $83 million, representing an operating margin of 29.9%. Adjusted EBITDA reached $101.1 million with a 36.4% margin, reflecting a 900-basis-point expansion from the previous year and exceeding the company's long-term margin objective of 35%. Free cash flow reached $189 million for the quarter, encouraging executive leadership to raise its full-year free cash flow target to at least $480 million—up from a previous minimum of $465 million—which implies annual growth of at least 39.9%. Clear Secure also declared a quarterly dividend of $0.15 per share payable on September 24 to shareholders of record as of September 10, following $22.2 million in capital returns distributed during the second quarter.
However, company management outlined a more cautious outlook for the upcoming period, according to financial reporting by Yahoo Finance. For the third quarter, Clear Secure projected midpoint revenue growth of 24.6% and bookings growth of 20.5%, marking a substantial moderation from its second-quarter momentum. Capital allocation strategies also adjusted during the year, with share buybacks slowing to $1.2 million across the first six months of 2026, compared to $126.3 million during the equivalent timeframe a year earlier. Over the same span, diluted shares outstanding expanded to 102.8 million from 94.4 million.
Operating costs and balance sheet obligations grew alongside business operations. General and administrative expenses increased 12.6% year-over-year to $65.9 million for the second quarter. Furthermore, accrued liabilities on the balance sheet nearly doubled, rising to $404.7 million from $236.5 million recorded at the close of 2025.
Institutional investors have demonstrated mixed sentiment regarding the company's growth trajectory. Hedge fund ownership in Clear Secure declined from 33 funds to 27 funds during the most recent quarter, while short interest stood at 15.62% of the public float. Bullish investors point to the ongoing system-wide rollout of eGates and expanding Concierge services as potential catalysts to outperform forward estimates, whereas bearish market participants highlight the decelerating guidance and reduced fund backing as signs that historical growth rates above 30% may prove challenging to sustain.
