CoreWeave Founders Sell $3.3 Billion in Equity Since IPO as Capital Costs Mount
Co-founders have accelerated pre-scheduled stock sales into 2026, even as high debt service and infrastructure spending pressure the AI cloud provider.
The three co-founders of artificial intelligence cloud provider CoreWeave have sold a cumulative $3.3 billion of company stock since its March 28, 2025 initial public offering, according to regulatory filings reported by Yahoo Finance (https://247wallst.com/investing/2026/10/17/coreweaves-founders-have-sold-3-3-billion-of-stock-since-its-ipo/?.tsrc=rss). Of that total, $2.4 billion was offloaded during 2026.
The transactions were executed by Chief Executive Officer Michael Intrator, Chief Strategy Officer Brian Venturo, and Chief Development Officer Brannin McBee. A CoreWeave spokesperson characterized the divestments as pre-scheduled, fully disclosed, and entirely standard under Rule 10b5-1 trading plans. The company stated that the three founders continue to hold a combined equity stake of approximately 20%, maintaining their position among its six largest shareholders.
SEC records show Venturo has realized more than $1.2 billion in gross proceeds since the IPO, including $734 million in the second quarter of 2026. McBee has divested $1.06 billion, representing 40.4% of his undiluted equity at the time of the public listing. Intrator has sold more than $907 million since January 1, 2026, compared to less than $70 million across all of 2025. Prior to going public, the trio sold $488 million of equity privately across 2023 and 2024.
The accelerated sales have occurred alongside pressure on CoreWeave's market valuation. Shares of the company closed at $61.39 on October 16, 2026, following an 11.91% single-day decline amid broader AI infrastructure sector losses, hovering near its 52-week low of $59.51 and down 56.69% over the trailing 12 months. The equity slide contrasts with executive messaging; Intrator told analysts on August 11, 2026, that conviction in the company's strategic roadmap had never been stronger.
CoreWeave's underlying top line continues to expand rapidly, with second-quarter revenue rising 112.3% year-over-year to $2.575 billion and contracted revenue backlog reaching roughly $104 billion. However, capital expenditure and borrowing costs have surged: quarterly interest expense rose to $640 million from $267 million a year earlier, and free cash flow stood at negative $5.743 billion. Nvidia, which supplies the graphic processors powering CoreWeave's data centers, holds a 10% equity stake in the company without carrying its corporate debt.
Investors face their next operational checkpoint around November 9, 2026, when CoreWeave is expected to release third-quarter earnings. Management has previously guided for quarterly interest expenses to climb between $860 million and $940 million.
