Western Digital expects revenue to grow between 66% and 72% in its current fiscal quarter, accelerating from a 55% year-over-year increase in its fiscal first quarter as cloud providers absorb denser storage media, according to reporting published on Yahoo Finance (https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/why-western-digital-wdc-massive-185737464.html?.tsrc=rss).

The top-line forecast surpassed internal management targets, supported by cloud customers that now account for the majority of the storage manufacturer's sales. Operating margins expanded alongside the volume gains, with adjusted gross margin reaching 58.1%. Rather than building new manufacturing facilities, the company has added storage capacity by packing more data onto each drive, commanding higher prices per terabyte.

Chief Executive Irving Tan cited multi-year demand visibility from the company's largest accounts. Operationally, Western Digital plans to begin volume shipments of its initial commercial heat-assisted magnetic recording drives in the first half of next year, keeping hard drive supply disciplined while supporting unit pricing.

The board authorized a 17% increase to Western Digital's quarterly dividend alongside ongoing share repurchases, reflecting the cash generated from tightening server storage supply.

The storage provider's expansion comes as hyperscale cloud operators face broader scrutiny over capital intensity. Rising compute investments have squeezed free cash flows across major technology platforms, pushing operators toward debt markets while benchmark 10-year Treasury yields linger near 5.3%. For Western Digital, sustained pricing will hinge on executing its commercial rollout of next-generation recording architectures through mid-2027.
