Apple has scheduled its main annual product launch for Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (1 p.m. Eastern Time), hosted at the Steve Jobs Theater on its Cupertino headquarters campus. The hardware showcase, which will be broadcast live via YouTube, Apple TV, and the company's website, is expected to center on next-generation mobile devices and a pivotal executive transition.

First reported by ZDNET, the event is heavily anticipated to feature Apple's initial entry into the foldable smartphone segment. Industry rumors suggest the new form factor will directly compete against existing foldable flagship devices such as Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Google's Pixel 11 Pro Fold.

Beside potential foldable hardware, Apple is expected to debut its premium iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max smartphones. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman indicates that Apple will likely hold off on introducing its standard consumer models—including the base iPhone 18, iPhone SE, and iPhone Air—until next spring, mirroring the spring launch timeline used for devices like the MacBook Neo earlier this year.

Wearable devices will also form a central portion of the upcoming keynote. Apple is anticipated to unveil the Apple Watch Series 12, maintaining its tradition of annual smartwatch updates. Gurman reports that an upgraded Apple Watch Ultra 4 equipped with a revised processor could also make an appearance during the presentation.

In audio hardware, Apple may introduce the AirPods 5 as a direct successor to the AirPods 4, which were launched two years ago. The base earbuds received no hardware changes last year when Apple focused exclusively on introducing the AirPods Pro 3, making a refresh likely during this product cycle.

Beyond product updates, the keynote will mark a significant leadership shift for the tech giant. Tim Cook is set to step down as chief executive officer in September after leading the company for 15 years, during which Apple's market capitalization expanded from $350 billion to $4 trillion.

Executive leadership will transition to John Ternus, Apple's current senior vice president of hardware engineering, who will open this year's launch event. Ternus brings a 25-year history at Apple, having contributed to major product portfolios including the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, and the Apple Vision Pro headset.

Official invitations distributed by Apple offer thematic hints about the upcoming releases. The promotional graphic shows a bright sun set against a blue sky embedded inside the company logo, accompanied by the tagline "Surprise and shine," prompting market speculation ranging from a baby blue color option to prospective smart sunglasses hardware.
