Garmin Unveils Fenix 9 Smartwatch Series Featuring Titanium Chassis and 3,000-Nit AMOLED Display

Garmin announced its next-generation flagship smartwatch series, unveiling the Fenix 9, Fenix 9 Pro, and Fenix 9 Pro Solar. Scheduled for release on August 28, 2026, the updated wearable line introduces upgraded display technologies, expanded satellite connectivity, and revised chassis materials across multiple size configurations.

The expanded product family divides its display technologies between high-brightness panels and solar-assisted efficiency models, as first reported by ZDNET. Both the standard Fenix 9 and the Fenix 9 Pro incorporate active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) screens, while the Fenix 9 Pro Solar utilizes a memory-in-pixel (MIP) solar charging display designed to extend battery performance during prolonged outdoor operation.

Among the primary hardware design changes in the Fenix 9 Pro is a full titanium chassis construction. While earlier generations featured polymer bodies capped with metallic bezels, the new model replaces the composite casing with an all-titanium build. Garmin also introduced redesigned ComfortFit fabric straps featuring a split-weave structure aimed at enhancing flexibility and moisture resistance, paired with the company's QuickFit attachment mechanism.

On the display front, the AMOLED panel on the Fenix 9 Pro achieves a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, marking a two-fold increase over the maximum luminance offered on the prior Fenix 8 series. On the largest 51mm chassis size, the display area spans 1.5 inches, representing a 15 percent increase in screen real estate relative to the previous generation. Garmin opted not to include microLED panel options across any of the Fenix 9 variants.

Navigation and mapping capabilities have also seen hardware and software upgrades. The Fenix 9 Pro doubles internal storage capacity over the prior generation to 64GB, providing increased local storage for topographic data, ski resort layouts, golf course maps, and offline media files. The watch software incorporates enhanced multi-layer mapping interfaces designed to give users clearer navigational perspectives directly on the display.

Connectivity upgrades center on the integration of Garmin's InReach technology. The 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm versions of the Fenix 9 Pro support satellite and LTE communication through an InReach subscription plan, enabling unlimited cellular messaging and calling capabilities alongside satellite positioning services. The device adds a continuous live-tracking capability via InReach, allowing external contacts to monitor user coordinates without requiring the manual initialization of a tracking session.

Pricing for the new lineup begins at $999 for the baseline 43mm Fenix 9, which is also produced in 47mm and 51mm configurations. The Fenix 9 Pro opens at $1,099 across the same three size variants, while the Fenix 9 Pro Solar is priced from $1,099 and is restricted to the 47mm and 51mm case sizes. All models are set to become available for order starting August 28, 2026.
