Mouse Computer Launches 981-Gram Laptop with AMD Ryzen AI Silicon and Expandable RAM

The notebook measures 277.1 mm wide, 210.2 mm deep, and 19 mm thick. Mouse Computer built the chassis with an unoccupied SODIMM slot, allowing users to expand the default single-channel 16 GB memory configuration up to 32 GB. Sourcing an additional 16 GB DDR5-5600 module currently costs approximately $229 via Amazon.

Buyers can configure the system with three distinct AMD Accelerated Processing Units (APUs). The baseline model uses a Ryzen 5 216 processor featuring two Zen 4 cores and four Zen 4c cores, delivering performance comparable to the Ryzen 5 8540U in circulating online benchmark scores. Mid-tier units step up to AMD's Krackan Point architecture with the six-core Ryzen AI 5 340, which benchmark comparisons indicate approaches Intel's Core Ultra 7 165H in multicore throughput.

The flagship tier features the eight-core Ryzen AI 7 350, combining four Zen 5 cores with four Zen 5c cores to deliver performance close to Intel's Core Ultra 9 185H in early synthetic and multi-threaded test results. All configurations feature a 500 GB NVMe solid-state drive and a 12.2-inch 1920x1200 display covering 100% of the sRGB color gamut.

The chassis includes a 180-degree hinge and a 60 Wh battery rated under Japan's JEITA 3.0 standard for up to 12.5 hours of video playback and 25 hours at idle. Connectivity options encompass gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5, USB Type-A ports, HDMI output, and a microSD card slot.

Software and security features include Windows 11 Home and a 2 MP webcam with a hardware privacy shutter and Windows Hello facial recognition support. Mouse Computer will offer the laptop in Cosmo Blue, Frost Gold, and Pearl White.

Sales are scheduled to begin sequentially in October through Mouse Computer's online store in Japan. The Ryzen AI 5 variant with 16 GB of RAM and 500 GB of storage is priced at ¥239,800 (around $1,545), while the Ryzen AI 7 version carries a price of ¥259,000 (roughly $1,670). The company has not announced distribution plans outside the Japanese domestic market.
