Apple Licenses IP and Hires Talent From Personalized Audio Startup Huxe
A European regulatory filing reveals Apple agreed to hire staff and take a non-exclusive tech license after Huxe shut down its AI podcast app.

Apple has agreed to hire team members and license intellectual property from Huxe, a startup that built personalized artificial intelligence podcast technology, according to a regulatory disclosure filed with the European Commission.
As first reported by MacRumors and detailed by TechCrunch AI (https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/10/apple-discloses-deal-to-hire-team-and-license-tech-from-personalized-podcast-startup-huxe/), Apple notified European regulators that it reached an agreement to offer employment to "certain employees of Huxe AI" and secure a "non-exclusive license to Huxe’s intellectual property rights."
The transaction follows a structure commonly known as a reverse acqui-hire. Rather than acquiring a startup outright, larger technology companies license key technology and recruit technical staff, a method that allows them to absorb specialized talent while avoiding the prolonged antitrust reviews associated with full corporate acquisitions.
Huxe was founded by developers who previously worked on AI-generated podcast capabilities in NotebookLM, Google's audio and note-taking tool that was recently rebranded as Gemini Notebook. On May 21, Huxe announced on its website that it was shutting down operations, halting its service, removing its application from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, and deleting user data.
"The team is moving on to new things, and we won’t be continuing development of the product," Huxe stated in its shutdown notice. The team added: "The fact that you used it, told friends about it, sent us your suggestions and your ideas, made it feel like we built it together."
Apple formally submitted notification of its agreement to the European Commission on June 9, less than three weeks after Huxe announced its closure. The regulatory filing does not name the individuals who received employment offers, confirm whether those offers were accepted, or detail Apple's product roadmap for the licensed technology.
The timeline also followed broader activity in the synthetic audio market. Huxe's May 21 shutdown came one day after Spotify introduced its own AI-powered podcast generation tools. While Apple has not detailed how it plans to deploy the incoming engineers or the licensed intellectual property, the deal gives the company technical assets that could support automated audio and podcast features.
