AWS Marketplace Sees Surge in AI Agent Listings as Enterprise Demand Rises
Search queries for autonomous agents jumped to third place on the cloud platform as AI tools take over software procurement and deployment.

Enterprise adoption of artificial intelligence agents is driving a structural shift in how corporate software is discovered, purchased, and deployed, according to figures released by Amazon Web Services. On the AWS Marketplace, enterprise demand for autonomous software tools has spiked dramatically over the past 12 months, transforming both the types of applications listed on the catalog and the internal mechanics of software procurement, as first reported by ZDNET. As organizations look to automate complex enterprise workflows, application marketplaces are increasingly embedding AI agents directly into the procurement pipeline to handle due diligence, compliance checks, and post-sale implementation.
Internal search metrics from the AWS platform highlight the swift acceleration of buyer interest over the past year. Matt Yanchyshyn, vice president of AWS Marketplace & Partner Services, revealed that search queries for the term "AI agents" climbed from the 64th most popular keyword on the platform a year ago to the third most searched term today. To meet this growing buyer interest, the catalog of dedicated agent offerings hosted on AWS Marketplace expanded from roughly 1,000 listings last year to more than 4,000 today. Overall, the marketplace now hosts nearly 40,000 software applications across its entire software catalog.
The rapid proliferation of agentic tools on AWS mirrors a broader institutional shift toward automated corporate purchasing software. Industry projections from research firm Market Intelo value the global agentic procurement software market at $1.2 billion in 2025, with expectations that it will expand at a compound annual growth rate of 24 percent to reach nearly $9 billion by 2034. According to Market Intelo, agentic procurement platforms differ fundamentally from traditional procure-to-pay or strategic sourcing applications because autonomous agents can plan, execute, and adjust multi-step acquisition processes without requiring human intervention at every stage. These systems are designed to independently screen vendors, conduct contract negotiation dialogues, enforce organizational budget limits, and complete end-to-end purchasing contracts.
Technology industry observers note that integrating AI agents into software storefronts significantly reduces administrative friction for corporate IT departments. Bret Greenstein, chief AI officer at business consulting firm West Monroe Partners, explained that agent-powered marketplaces are eliminating substantial operational overhead by assisting enterprises with application discovery, vendor comparisons, software licensing, entitlement tracking, auditing, and contract renewals. Yanchyshyn corroborated this trend, pointing out that while basic self-service purchases remain common on the platform, AWS Marketplace is moving beyond basic transactional support. The integration of agentic functionality allows the platform to assist customers with due diligence and complex post-purchase tasks, improving software deployment success and facilitating custom pricing agreements for larger accounts.
Corporate buyer preferences on cloud marketplaces are also shifting toward more integrated and communicative software architectures. While organizations initially sought standalone single-purpose tools, such as Atomic MCP servers, Yanchyshyn noted that enterprise clients are now actively searching for software-as-a-service applications that feature built-in agentic capabilities designed to interact with other external AI agents. Independent software vendors are utilizing these capabilities to refine their own prospect engagement strategies. For example, healthcare technology vendor CharmHealth built an AI virtual assistant named Ria to assist prospective clients in evaluating software products and navigating the initial onboarding process. CharmHealth chief executive officer Pramila Srinivasan explained that the assistant allows prospective buyers to explore software functionality at their own pace without waiting for a sales representative, while simultaneously gathering higher-quality background context that is passed along to sales teams before direct conversations take place.
Despite the clear efficiency improvements offered by agentic purchasing systems, research experts urge enterprise buyers to maintain rigorous oversight over automated outputs. Shashi Bellamkonda, principal research director at Info-Tech Research Group, cautioned that because of how underlying artificial intelligence models operate, automated marketplace agents may review less than 70 percent of all available solutions in a given category. Bellamkonda recommended that procurement teams regularly reprompt systems, supply additional technical details, and evaluate agent outputs as preliminary drafts rather than finalized purchasing decisions. Greenstein similarly noted that as automated tools make software discovery and provisioning significantly faster, enterprise risk leaders must establish clearer corporate policies governing approved vendor lists, cybersecurity standards, data access permissions, technical architecture guidelines, licensing terms, and the explicit authority delegated to AI agents.
Looking ahead, cloud executives emphasize that while automated marketplace agents will absorb a growing share of routine procurement tasks, human sales teams remain indispensable for high-stakes enterprise transactions. Yanchyshyn observed that while AI agents effectively operate as solution-matching engines for low- to medium-tier software purchases, large-scale enterprise deals involving custom technical configurations and multi-year private pricing commitments will continue to require direct collaboration between experienced sales professionals and corporate procurement teams.
