Google Brings Agentic AI Capabilities to Gemini Enterprise
The update equips Gemini with an independent Workspace identity, multi-model selection including Claude, and integrations across enterprise software stacks.

Google announced on Thursday that it is introducing agentic capabilities to its Gemini artificial intelligence platform, shifting the tool from a standard conversational assistant into a unified agent designed to execute multi-step corporate workflows from a single interface, as reported by TechCrunch AI (https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/08/google-brings-agentic-ai-to-gemini-starting-with-businesses/).
The company is deploying the agent to corporate customers first before rolling it out to consumers. Speaking at the Google Cloud event, Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai stated that Gemini currently counts more than 1 billion monthly active users and that nearly 90 percent of Fortune 100 companies use Gemini Enterprise. Pichai said that prioritizing enterprise deployment allows Google to address core requirements around security, scale, and system performance.
Google Cloud Chief Executive Thomas Kurian noted that the agent operates on broad objectives rather than isolated instructions. The system creates execution plans, deploys custom tools and skills, and interfaces directly with internal business infrastructure. By default, the system selects the optimal model for an assigned task, but users can manually select alternative models—starting with Anthropic's Claude family, with open-source and proprietary models planned for future inclusion.
The agent accepts attached files, folders, and dedicated project workstreams that pair data with custom skills. It connects directly with workplace tools and data repositories, including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, Confluence, Git, BigQuery, Databricks, Postgres, and Snowflake. It also supports connections to Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers located inside or outside a company's network.
Users can monitor operations through a dedicated "tasks inbox" interface that displays Gemini's reasoning process, task delegation to subagents, loaded skills, code execution, and project status. The agent is assigned its own Google Workspace account, giving it a distinct corporate email address, calendar access, and awareness of organizational charts, time zones, and approval hierarchies. Actions taken by the agent generate an audit trail attributed directly to the AI.
The agent is accessible via iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, command-line interfaces, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, ServiceNow, and Slack. Early enterprise testers include On, Shopify, and PayPal. To help organizations manage computational expenses, Google also introduced cost-control tools including multi-model orchestration, smart routing, and real-time spending caps.
