Meta Introduces AI Game Creation Tools for Horizon With Direct Instagram and Facebook Distribution

Meta has announced two new artificial intelligence development tools designed to let creators build video games through prompts for its Horizon social platform: Horizon Create, a mobile application, and Horizon Studio, a browser-based application offering more granular controls. Both tools are rolling out in early access with an open waitlist, according to a report by The Verge (https://www.theverge.com/games/999972/meta-horizon-create-studio-ai-games).

The launch is coupled with direct integration into Meta's core social networks. Titles built with Horizon Create and Horizon Studio will be recommended and playable directly within Instagram and Facebook feeds without requiring separate app downloads or redirects. Meta stated that users scrolling through feeds will be able to tap a gameplay clip and enter a multiplayer session within seconds, with algorithmic reach prioritized for games that demonstrate stability, high engagement, cultural relevance, and strong retention.

According to Meta, both tools allow creators to turn conceptual prompts into full 2D or 3D mobile games containing progression systems, balanced difficulty, art direction, and multiplayer functionality, with options to manually refine components after generation.

The move reflects an ongoing shift for Horizon, which originally launched as a virtual reality platform tied to Meta's Quest headsets before recently pivoting to prioritize mobile access. The initiative also places Meta in closer competition with Roblox, which counts 123 million daily active users and has introduced its own prompt-based game creation features on mobile. By contrast, The Verge previously reported in early 2022 that Horizon had reached 300,000 monthly active users.
