Meta is expanding beyond its core advertising model by launching a dedicated enterprise business to sell artificial intelligence tools and services directly to corporate customers, according to an announcement from Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg.

Writing in a post on Facebook, Zuckerberg described the commercial AI initiative as the "next major pillar of our business." To oversee the division, Meta appointed Chirantan "CJ" Desai as its Chief Enterprise Platform Officer. Desai previously led database software company MongoDB.

The new division, named Meta Enterprise Platform, will package the company's internal AI software for external businesses and developers. Initial commercial offerings will include the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, and Muse Code, according to Zuckerberg.

The operational shift follows months of incremental releases of business automation and developer tooling, as well as unconfirmed reports that Meta has considered leasing capacity in its data centers to third parties.

The enterprise expansion arrives against the backdrop of aggressive capital expenditures. Zuckerberg has stated that Meta expects to spend $600 billion on AI over the next two years, with significant funds allocated toward data center infrastructure, as reported by Engadget (https://www.engadget.com/2271136/meta-is-starting-an-enterprise-business-to-justify-its-massive-ai-spending/). While Meta has introduced consumer and small-business AI subscriptions across its social networks, a dedicated enterprise software platform offers a direct path to monetize its compute footprint at scale.
