Mistral AI Reaches $24B Valuation Following $3.5B Series D Mega-Round
Led by Samsung Electronics, the French artificial intelligence developer's latest funding round sets a new benchmark for European venture financing.

Paris-based artificial intelligence developer Mistral AI has completed a $3.5 billion Series D financing round that pushes its valuation above $24 billion, the company announced Tuesday. The new valuation nearly doubles the enterprise's previous market capitalization established during its prior funding iteration a year ago.
Electronics giant Samsung Electronics served as the lead investor for the round, according to reporting first published by Crunchbase News. EQT-managed Scaleup Europe Fund and existing financial backer PSG Equity participated as co-lead investors in the transaction.
The capital injection comes roughly twelve months after Mistral secured $2 billion in a Series C round that valued the startup at $13.7 billion. With the completion of its Series D, the French firm has now accumulated $7.5 billion in cumulative venture backing since its initial launch in 2023.
With its elevated valuation, Mistral maintains its standing as the highest-valued foundation model developer originating from Europe. According to data tracking global tech unicorns, the company represents one of only seven private frontier research laboratories worldwide with valuations surpassing $20 billion, excluding China-based ByteDance. The remaining entities within this tier are situated exclusively in the United States and China.
Mistral stated that it intends to deploy the fresh capital toward expanding its frontier research initiatives, building out necessary infrastructure, and scaling both its commercial operations and international footprint. The organization currently maintains operations across 20 countries and provides model architecture to more than 125 enterprise clients globally, including prominent corporations such as Airbus, ASML, BMW, and HSBC.
The startup develops generative models engineered to generate text, write software code, and analyze complex documents. These capabilities place the firm in direct competition with major American artificial intelligence vendors including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Alphabet's Google.
Unlike many of its U.S.-based competitors, Mistral emphasizes deployment flexibility and data autonomy for corporate clients. The company allows enterprises to fine-tune its models and execute them directly on their own private infrastructure rather than forcing reliance on external third-party cloud hosting environments.
The record funding event occurs amid a broader resurgence in European venture capital activity. European startups collected $24 billion during the second quarter, marking the continent's strongest quarter for venture funding in four years. That total represents a quarter-over-quarter gain of approximately one-third and a substantial rise over the $14.4 billion recorded in the second quarter of 2025.
Mistral's Series D eclipses its own previous $2 billion funding record, cementing a broader trend of massive capital deployments into European technology infrastructure this year. Notable transactions in the region include London-based Isomorphic Labs' $2.1 billion Series B led by Thrive Capital in May, as well as AI data center provider Nscale's $2 billion Series C in March, which valued the company at $14.6 billion.
