Mistral AI Secures €3B Funding Round Led by Samsung at €20B Valuation
The French open-source artificial intelligence lab will use the capital to purchase training compute and broaden its global footprint.

French artificial intelligence developer Mistral AI SAS has closed a €3 billion (approximately $3.49 billion) funding round, elevating the company's valuation to more than €20 billion.
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. led the mega-round, which drew participation from more than two dozen investors. The syndicate included Nvidia Corp., Salesforce Ventures, and ASML Holdings NV, the chip equipment maker that spearheaded Mistral’s previous investment round, according to reporting by SiliconANGLE.
The Paris-based startup plans to allocate the fresh capital toward expanding its international commercial operations and purchasing additional high-performance computing infrastructure to support ongoing model training initiatives.
Mistral has earned widespread recognition in the technology industry for its open-source large language models. Its primary system, Mistral Medium 3.5, outperforms competing algorithms several times its scale on established software development benchmarks. The organization has also moved into specialized model architecture, launching a guard model in August tailored to prevent malicious prompt attacks on AI deployments.
The startup generates revenue through managed cloud access to its algorithms and enterprise-grade tools designed for proprietary model creation. Its cloud service portfolio features Mistral Forge, which generates synthetic training datasets for pretraining pipelines, and Mistral Studio, a platform that manages reinforcement learning and orchestrates autonomous software agents.
Mistral Studio provides developers with system prompts, structural guardrails, and an automated recovery mechanism that reattempts failed actions. The platform also embeds a dedicated registry for tracking datasets and agent configurations, complete with version control capabilities to revert system components when software bugs occur. Alongside its development platform, Mistral sells Vibe, a packaged agent that writes code and processes spreadsheet tasks, offering on-premises deployment for organizations facing stringent regulatory oversight.
Mistral disclosed that its corporate roster currently exceeds 125 enterprise customers, including industry leaders such as Airbus SE, HSBC Holdings plc, and ASML. The massive capital injection follows an internal forecast released by the startup in April targeting $80 million in monthly revenue by the end of the year.
