SAN FRANCISCO - Omen AI has secured $31 million in Series A financing to scale its specialized monitoring technology for liquid-cooling systems, addressing a critical physical bottleneck in the build-out of artificial intelligence data centers. The investment round was led by Nava Ventures, with participation from CRV, Mann+Hummel, and Vanderbilt University, alongside other institutional investors. The capital infusion comes as the industry undergoes a massive transition in how heat is managed within the high-density computing clusters required to train and run generative AI models.

As the thermal demands of powerful AI chips transcend the capabilities of traditional air-cooling methods, many data center operators are increasingly turning toward liquid-based cooling architectures. While liquid is vastly more efficient at removing heat than air, it introduces a new suite of operational risks related to fluid integrity and infrastructure longevity. Omen AI targets this specific vulnerability by providing real-time data on the health of the coolants circulating through these multi-billion dollar installations, aiming to prevent the types of hardware damage or unplanned downtime that can cripple modern computing facilities.

The technical challenge stems from the fact that cooling fluids can degrade over time or become compromised by external factors. Monitoring these systems has historically been a manual and reactive process, often involving the extraction of physical samples that must be couriered to a laboratory. This traditional model typically requires days to return results, a latency period that is becoming increasingly unacceptable for operators running specialized chips where every hour of downtime represents significant lost revenue and compute availability.

Omen AI's solution replaces this intermittent testing with a combination of permanent in-line sensors and portable diagnostic devices designed to analyze coolant composition in real time. The company's hardware is engineered to detect the presence of bacteria, metal particles, and other contaminants that could lead to corrosion or blockage within the cooling loops. By providing constant telemetry on fluid quality, the system acts as an early warning system, allowing maintenance teams to address minor chemical imbalances before they escalate into systemic failures.

Company founder and chief executive Zach Laberge established the firm in 2024, initially focusing the underlying sensor technology on heavy construction equipment. However, the rapid expansion of the AI market and the resulting heat-dissipation crisis prompted a strategic shift toward the data center sector. The transition has proven timely, as the industry enters a cycle where power and cooling are no longer peripheral concerns but central constraints on the speed of AI deployment.

The startup, which currently employs 30 people, has already secured more than a dozen customers, signaling early market validation for specialized infrastructure monitoring. With the completion of this Series A round, Omen AI has raised a total of approximately $41.5 million to date. This funding is expected to support a significant expansion of the company's engineering and manufacturing capabilities as it seeks to meet the growing demand from hyperscalers and colocation providers.

The broader context for this investment is the rising thermal profile of next-generation hardware. Industry analysts have noted that the power consumption of top-tier AI accelerators is reaching levels where air-cooled racks are no longer a viable option for high-density environments. This shift toward liquid cooling has created a vacuum in the ecosystem for specialized monitoring tools that can treat coolant as mission-critical data, similar to how server temperature or network latency is tracked today.

Management frequently describes the Omen AI system as being analogous to a continuous blood test for the data center. By ensuring that the fluid remains within strict operational parameters, operators can avoid the expensive and time-consuming process of flushing entire cooling systems. Such flushes often require the temporary suspension of compute tasks, which can disrupt training cycles for large language models and other resource-intensive applications.

The involvement of investors such as Mann+Hummel, a firm with deep roots in filtration and fluid management, suggests that the market recognizes the unique hardware challenges posed by liquid-cooled computing. As data centers migrate from simple cold-plate systems to more complex immersion cooling setups, the chemical stability of the surrounding fluids becomes the primary safeguard for the electronics themselves.

Despite the early traction, Omen AI faces the challenge of proving that its monitoring solutions can provide a clear and consistent return on investment for large-scale operators. While the risk of coolant-related failure is real, the company must demonstrate that its sensors can provide reliable data over the long term without becoming a point of failure themselves. Establishing its technology as a standard component of every liquid-cooled deployment will be the company’s primary focus in the coming quarters.

Looking forward, the success of the startup will likely depend on the speed at which the data center industry adopts liquid cooling at scale. While most industry projections suggest a rapid transition, the high capital costs associated with retooling existing facilities could influence the pace of adoption. Omen AI is positioning itself to be the dominant telemetry provider in this space, hoping to move alongside established vendors of chips, power systems, and networking equipment.

The new funding will allow the San Francisco-based company to refine its hardware designs and increase its footprint in a market where infrastructure reliability is becoming a competitive advantage. As compute clusters grow in size and complexity, the ability to monitor every physical variable—including the health of the fluid keeping the systems from melting—is transitioning from a luxury to an operational necessity.
