Polar has raised a $5.7 million seed round led by Madrona to build an AI-first browser for knowledge workers. CEO Kevin Jiang previously worked on Perplexity's Comet and believes the strongest demand for browser agents comes from repeated business processes rather than occasional consumer tasks.

The browser lets users save prompts, schedule workflows and give agents assignments based on open tabs. Polar is targeting sales, recruiting, marketing, research and operations teams that already complete much of their work across web applications.

The product is free with a limited number of daily AI credits. Paid plans begin at $20 per month for customers who need higher usage. Polar says many users keep another browser as their primary interface and open Polar when they want to automate a specific process.

That behavior may be an advantage because the company does not need to replace Chrome or Safari immediately. It can become an automation layer for work that is too repetitive for manual execution but too varied for a fixed integration. It also means Polar must prove value often enough to justify another browser and subscription.

Jiang's experience at Perplexity gives Polar insight into why the first AI-browser wave struggled. Travel booking and restaurant reservations occur too infrequently to create a daily habit. Repetitive knowledge work offers more opportunities for measurable time savings, but enterprise adoption will require administrative controls that a consumer browser can largely ignore.

A browser for knowledge work has to integrate with documents, ticketing systems and internal search while respecting every underlying permission. Polar can differentiate itself by automating repetitive research and updates rather than trying to replace the open web. The small seed round encourages focus, but enterprise buyers will expect security review early. Jiang's experience on Comet may help the team avoid features that look impressive and go unused. Adoption will depend on whether workers can inspect actions, correct mistakes and recover when an automated sequence changes the wrong record.

Browser agents operate close to sensitive information, including email, customer systems and internal documents. Polar will need strong permission controls, activity logs and confirmation before consequential actions. The funding gives the company time to refine the workflow. Its long-term position will depend on whether the browser remains the best container for that automation as operating systems and enterprise applications add their own agents.
