Generalist, an artificial intelligence and robotics startup developing systems for automated labor, has secured approximately $200 million in a new financing round led by venture capital firm 8VC, according to a report from Axios.

The fresh influx of capital comes on the heels of a massive $400 million round that the company closed in June, demonstrating sustained investor demand for embodied intelligence platforms capable of operating in the physical world.

The rapid funding cadence follows the debut of the company's flagship GEN-1 model in April. Designed to execute complex physical tasks, the GEN-1 system marked Generalist's transition into practical deployment for automated physical operations.

The round was led by Austin-headquartered venture firm 8VC, which has increasingly focused on frontier technology investments across industrial automation, defense, and artificial intelligence hardware.

With roughly $600 million raised across its last two tranches alone, Generalist stands among the best-capitalized early-stage startups in the rapidly expanding physical AI sector. Building foundational models for hardware control requires significant expenditure on compute infrastructure, dataset acquisition, and real-world testing environments.

Details of the funding transaction were first reported by Axios reporter Dan Primack. Generalist and 8VC have not officially commented on the valuation or final terms of the funding round.
