Alphabet Emerges as Major Berkshire Holding amid AI Infrastructure Expansion
The Google parent company has scaled its artificial intelligence division and cloud revenues while expanding data center expenditures.

Alphabet has increasingly solidified its position as a central pillar of Berkshire Hathaway's equity portfolio, emerging as the conglomerate's third-largest equity holding, according to market analysis published by Yahoo Finance. The initial position in the Google parent company was established prior to Warren Buffett stepping down as chief executive officer at the end of 2025, with the stake expanding under current CEO Greg Abel.
While digital advertising remains Alphabet's chief source of revenue, the tech giant has steadily embedded artificial intelligence across its product ecosystem since 2001. The deployment of its Google Gemini model has positioned the firm to address competitive pressures from alternative generative AI platforms, including OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude.
The company's enterprise cloud division has served as a primary commercial engine for its generative tools. Google Cloud—which supplies foundation models, developer software, and AI infrastructure alongside Gemini integration—recorded an 82% year-over-year revenue surge during the second quarter of 2026, driven by rising demand for enterprise AI capabilities.
Beyond enterprise computing, Alphabet has integrated its artificial intelligence stack into physical autonomous systems through its subsidiary Waymo. The unit's Waymo Driver platform uses core machine learning models to analyze environmental conditions, predict human behavior, and navigate public roads autonomously.
The technology giant's financial metrics reflect both significant capital expansion and massive balance sheet liquidity. Alphabet currently trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 17 while maintaining more than $242 billion in cash and liquid assets, up from $127 billion reported during the previous year.
To support its ongoing technological infrastructure investments, Alphabet projected annual capital expenditures between $195 billion and $205 billion for the current fiscal year, with the vast majority directed toward artificial intelligence data centers. This capital push contributed to an increase in long-term debt to approximately $123 billion, up from $46.5 billion recorded at the end of June 2025.
Despite the sharp rise in capital outlays and debt obligations, the company generated over $53 billion in free cash flow across the last four reported quarters. Driven in part by cloud momentum and core ad performance, overall top-line revenue expanded 24% year over year, providing the capital necessary to fund its ongoing infrastructure expansion.
