Artificial intelligence developer Anthropic has initiated high-level introductory meetings with prospective Wall Street investors as it lays the groundwork for a highly anticipated initial public offering, according to a report by CNBC Business. However, the preliminary discussions have deliberately omitted detailed financial discussions or specific valuation figures as the company evaluates broader institutional sentiment.

Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao is spearheading the early investor sessions on behalf of the San Francisco-based AI enterprise. The preliminary market conversations follow Anthropic's confidential submission of its draft registration prospectus to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in June. Although the firm has yet to share a formal schedule for its public listing, executives have spent recent weeks conducting early 'test-the-waters' briefings with select asset managers and institutional funds.

People familiar with the proceedings told CNBC Business reporter David Faber that the current conversations have focused primarily on macro-level operational metrics and product offerings rather than hard financial forecasts. Topics presented to potential investors have included the technological architecture of the firm's flagship Claude artificial intelligence model suite, the operational development of its popular software engineering tool Claude Code, the company's competitive placement within enterprise software accounts, the structure of its executive management team, and the cadence of its recent software release cycles.

The institutional outreach comes on the heels of dramatic commercial growth for the artificial intelligence company. Originally established in 2021 by a group of former researchers and senior executives who departed OpenAI, Anthropic disclosed in May that its run-rate revenue had surpassed $47 billion. The rapid expansion represents a substantial jump from the roughly $10 billion in total revenue the business generated throughout the full calendar year of 2025, largely bolstered by lucrative enterprise contracts for its large language model suite.

Anthropic's private market valuation has scaled rapidly alongside its top-line revenue gains. In late May, the startup completed a venture funding round that valued the business at $965 billion. That valuation surpassed that of chief rival OpenAI, which secured an $852 billion valuation during its own investment cycle in late March. The fiercely competitive market for enterprise-grade AI software has driven both companies to secure unprecedented capital reserves ahead of their planned public listings.

While Krishna Rao and Anthropic executives have refrained from detailing specific public market pricing targets during the current meetings, several existing investors hold expectations that the company could pursue an initial public valuation of $2 trillion or higher. People familiar with the matter noted that those elevated valuation projections stem from internal investor models rather than guidance furnished by Anthropic itself. The $2 trillion expectation among venture partners was first reported by the Financial Times.

Anthropic’s early investor outreach puts it ahead of primary competitor OpenAI in terms of listing preparations. OpenAI filed its own confidential draft prospectus with securities regulators shortly after Anthropic in June, but as of late June had not yet launched pre-IPO investor meetings or outlined a defined timetable for its market entry. Both firms are entering a public market environment influenced by Elon Musk's SpaceX, which integrated his artificial intelligence startup xAI earlier this year before making a record-setting debut on the Nasdaq in June. SpaceX shares have subsequently experienced significant price swings, trading approximately 38 percent below their intra-day record high.

A representative for Anthropic did not immediately return a request for comment regarding the investor meetings or the status of its public offering preparations.
