President Donald Trump added up to $50,000 worth of SpaceX stock to his financial portfolio on June 23, following the space exploration company's record-setting public listing, according to financial disclosures.

The purchase, which was detailed in regulatory filings first reported by Reuters and covered by TechCrunch AI, did not specify the exact price per share obtained in the trade. At the time of the transaction on June 23, shares of the aerospace firm led by chief executive Elon Musk were trading in the mid-$150 range.

That price point marked a drop from the equity's post-IPO high of over $200 per share. By the end of trading on Monday, SpaceX shares had fallen back to their initial offering price of $135, leaving the president's investment potentially trading below its purchase value.

The acquisition underscores the financial ties connecting the administration with prominent technology ventures. Trump and Musk have maintained a close relationship, despite a public dispute last summer during which Musk criticized the administration over the disclosure of federal investigative files.

SpaceX has continued to secure substantial federal agency contracts in recent months. An analysis by The Wall Street Journal previously highlighted how the rocket maker has capitalized on federal deregulatory initiatives under the current presidential term.

Addressing the stock acquisition, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle informed Reuters that the president does not directly direct individual equity purchases. Instead, his investment holdings are handled by independent money managers.

Ingle explained that these external portfolio administrators execute trades structured to track prominent financial benchmarks, such as the Schwab 1000 index.

Ahead of its public listing, SpaceX had engaged in lobbying efforts directed at major market indexes to alter their rules, allowing for expedited inclusion into tracked funds. Consequently, automated index tracking has led to widespread institutional and individual exposure to the company's equity following its market entry.
