Anthropic’s Projected November IPO Faces Headwinds After Tech Stock Rout
Prediction markets sharply lowered the odds of an immediate public filing after election outcomes and scrutiny of AI data center energy costs sparked a Wall Street selloff.
A steep slide across semiconductor and enterprise technology shares has complicated Anthropic's timetable for an initial public offering that Wall Street had anticipated before the end of November.
With expectations that the artificial intelligence developer could seek a valuation between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion, the planned debut represents the first major public market valuation test for a frontier AI lab. The transaction is also viewed as a pricing benchmark for competitor OpenAI, which has targeted a public debut for early next year.
The market pullback hit technology leaders heavily on Thursday, sending the tech-heavy Nasdaq tumbling more than 5%, while the S&P 500 fell nearly 4% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped more than 3%. Chipmakers led the declines, highlighted by Advanced Micro Devices sliding 15.3%, alongside losses in Nvidia, Broadcom, Micron, and Tesla.
As reported by [Yahoo Finance](https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/article/anthropics-ipo-plans-run-up-against-a-battered-wall-street-192138177.html?.tsrc=rss), the market turbulence triggered an immediate drop in trading sentiment on prediction platforms. On Kalshi, the implied probability of Anthropic filing its registration by Nov. 30 dropped from 84% on Wednesday to 60% by Thursday afternoon, while the probability of a filing before Dec. 31 declined from 90% to 74%. Similar downward shifts were recorded on Polymarket.
The selloff followed Tuesday's election results, which swept Democrats into control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The political shift has introduced fresh uncertainty into nationwide AI data center buildouts. While the Trump administration had favored rapid permitting and expansion of AI power facilities, congressional Democrats and some Republicans have voiced concern over local electrical grid strain and consumer utility costs.
Industry participants are already responding to the changing regulatory environment. Speaking Wednesday at The Wall Street Journal's WSJ Tech conference, Meta President Dina Powell McCormick noted that securing permits and constructing data centers will face greater resistance. Separately, OpenAI published policy commitments on Thursday for its facility operations, agreeing to discontinue local non-disclosure pacts and cover the full capital costs of power and municipal utility infrastructure.
Anthropic made its public S-1 registration statement available with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Oct. 26, 2026, but has not yet priced the transaction or scheduled its formal investor roadshow. Whether company leadership proceeds with the listing during the current window or pauses until market volatility subsides will determine the timing for the broader wave of AI listings expected in 2027.
