Eaton Raises 2026 Outlook on Record Electrical Backlog and AI Power Demand
A 46% surge in electrical backlog and record third-quarter sales counter recent market anxiety over hyperscaler capital spending.
Eaton raised its full-year earnings guidance and reported record third-quarter financial results on Tuesday, signaling that hardware demand from data centers remains intact despite recent volatility across power-equipment equities.
The power management supplier reported net sales of $8.9 billion, up 28% year over year, with organic revenue growing 19% to exceed management's internal targets. Adjusted earnings per share reached $3.68, beating the $3.46 to $3.56 guidance range issued in July.
The performance directly counters recent market jitters over whether tech conglomerates can sustain their infrastructure budgets. In the month leading into the earnings report, Eaton stock dropped 16% as part of an industrywide pullback, according to analysis aggregated by Yahoo Finance (https://www.tikr.com/blog/eaton-just-dropped-16-in-a-month-is-it-time-to-sell-or-load-up?ref=yahoofinance&tlnk=yf-261103-gcvfxvqm&.tsrc=rss). Sector peers GE Vernova and Vertiv fell 13% and 11% respectively over the same window, while the Nasdaq 100 retreated 9%.
The selloff accelerated after Meta Platforms reported earnings on Oct. 21, lifting the bottom end of its 2026 capital expenditure target to between $135 billion and $145 billion while recording negative quarterly free cash flow and establishing non-voting Class C shares to facilitate future capital raises. The financing maneuvers prompted investors to question the endurance of hyperscaler spending, sending Eaton shares down 6% the following day.
Eaton's third-quarter intake showed no signs of an order freeze. The company's 12-month rolling average organic orders climbed 39% in Electrical Americas and 51% in Electrical Global, marking record order volumes in dollar terms for both divisions. Total electrical backlog expanded 46% over the prior year.
On the back of that order pipeline, Eaton raised its full-year 2026 adjusted earnings per share outlook to between $13.70 and $13.80, up from the $13.40 to $13.60 range projected in July. The revision marks the company's third organic growth guidance increase this year, overtaking Wall Street consensus estimates of $13.60 per share previously tracked by TIKR.
Valuation multiples in the sector have compressed alongside the recent market downdraft. Eaton entered the week trading at 24 times forward earnings, dipping below its five-year average of 25 and well beneath its April peak of 33, while consensus analyst price targets tracked across 28 brokerage firms held at roughly $485.
The durability of the trade now shifts to upcoming quarterly disclosures from Vertiv and GE Vernova, which will provide further clarity on whether order acceleration across electrical distribution and cooling gear is holding up industrywide.
