Shares of enterprise automation software provider UiPath Inc. (NYSE: PATH) rose 1% to $13.53 in afternoon trading, consolidating beneath the $14 mark after sliding nearly 30% from early September highs and remaining down 17% year-to-date, according to market reporting from Yahoo Finance (https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/signal-says-software-stock-could-173505415.html).

Despite the downward trend, quantitative indicators tracked by Schaeffer's Investment Research suggest the stock has entered a historically bullish technical setup. Per Schaeffer's senior quantitative analyst Rocky White, UiPath traded within 0.75 times the 20-day average true range (ATR) of its 260-day moving average after holding above that trendline for at least 80% of both the preceding two weeks and the prior 42 trading sessions.

The pattern has emerged only twice in the past decade for UiPath. Following both previous occurrences, the equity traded higher one month later, posting an average gain of 7.8%. A move of that scale from current levels would return PATH above $14.

The technical signal stands in sharp contrast to prevailing sentiment in derivative markets, where options positioning remains heavily defensive. Across the International Securities Exchange (ISE), Cboe Options Exchange (CBOE), and NASDAQ OMX PHLX (PHLX), UiPath's 50-day put/call volume ratio ranks above 86% of readings taken over the past year. The stock's Schaeffer's put/call open interest ratio (SOIR) similarly sits higher than 91% of annual observations.

Meanwhile, short sellers have reduced exposure, with short interest declining 14.9% across the past two reporting periods to leave days-to-cover at less than two days. On Wall Street, 18 of 20 covering brokerages maintain a "hold" or "sell" rating on UiPath, while options pricing reflects low expected volatility, with the Schaeffer's Volatility Index (SVI) at 57%—placing it in the 14th percentile of its annual range.
