Amazon has introduced a revamped hardware portfolio comprising three primary Alexa Tablets alongside two children's models, marking a strategic shift away from its budget, plastic Fire tablet line. According to reporting by ZDNET (https://www.zdnet.com/tech/amazon-new-alexa-tablets-google-play-store/), the devices run Android, offer access to the Google Play Store instead of relying solely on Amazon's proprietary app store, and are currently available for pre-order ahead of an Oct. 14 ship date.

The adult-focused lineup starts with the Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 at $230, moves to the Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 at $330, and peaks with the flagship Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, which starts at $500. All three models feature an aluminum chassis to replace the plastic construction of older Fire models.

On the software side, the tablets integrate Amazon's Alexa+ virtual assistant across the system interface, functioning similarly to Google Gemini on standard Android devices. The assistant can interpret content displayed on screen to answer questions and can sustain continuous conversational dialogue without requiring users to repeat the wake word before every prompt.

Hardware specifications scale across the tier. The Alexa Tablet 8 ships with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the Alexa Tablet 11 comes with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The flagship Alexa Tablet 12 Pro features an 8-core processor built on a 4-nanometer node, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. It is equipped with a 12-inch, 120Hz display, with an optional Nanomatte anti-glare screen available for an additional $50, bringing its starting configuration to $550.

Amazon is offering dedicated accessories for the Pro model, including a $90 Pro Pen that supports 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, tilt detection, and wireless charging. The company also announced a magnetic Pro Keyboard featuring an integrated trackpad that connects directly without requiring Bluetooth pairing.

Alongside the primary lineup, Amazon launched two youth editions: the Amazon Kids Tablet 8 for $230 and the Amazon Kids Tablet 11 for $330. The 8-inch edition features an 8.7-inch display, while the 11-inch version includes a 2.5K display and 8GB of RAM. Both children's models transition to Android with parental controls over Google Play access and include AI-assisted storytelling tools. The warranty coverage on the new kids' hardware has been reduced to a one-year limited warranty, down from the two-year worry-free guarantee provided on previous Fire Kids tablets.
