WiCi Announces WiCi One, a Wi-Fi 7 Wireless External GPU for Gaming and AI
The standalone unit packages desktop-tier Nvidia GPUs, onboard processing, and wireless streaming to offload heavy compute tasks from slim laptops.
Hardware maker WiCi has announced the WiCi One, an external graphics processing unit designed to deliver desktop-class compute power to slim laptops and other portable devices over a wireless network. Unlike conventional external GPUs that require physical tethering via Thunderbolt or OCuLink cables, the device connects using Wi-Fi 7, as reported by Engadget (https://www.engadget.com/2269877/this-external-gpu-uses-wi-fi-to-transform-any-device-into-a-gaming-rig/).
The standalone enclosure functions as a self-contained system, housing a dedicated graphics card, a Wi-Fi 7 wireless module, and an integrated cooling system. In addition to high-end gaming, WiCi is positioning the unit to handle heavy computational AI tasks, including hosting local AI assistants.
The base configuration includes an Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti graphics card with 16GB of VRAM, an Intel Core 3 100U processor, and 1TB of NVMe storage. WiCi claims this entry-level model can run Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K Ultra settings with DLSS 4 at 80 frames per second, and Black Myth: Wukong at 4K Cinematic settings with DLSS 4 at 60 frames per second. Independent benchmarks have not yet been conducted.
WiCi also plans to launch a higher-specification version equipped with an Nvidia RTX 5090 with 32GB of VRAM, an Intel Core Ultra 7 225H processor, and a 4TB PCIe Gen 5 NVMe solid-state drive.
Preorders for the base WiCi One model are open starting at $1,999, with the standard retail price set to rise to $2,599 after launch. WiCi expects to begin shipping the first units in the fourth quarter of this year, with pricing for the RTX 5090 variant to be announced closer to release.
