YouTube Music Expands Ask Music with Deeper Track Insights and AI Podcast Digests

YouTube announced a set of new discovery and curation features for its YouTube Music app during its Made on YouTube event on Wednesday, according to a report by Mashable Tech (https://mashable.com/tech/made-on-youtube-2026-youtube-music-ask-music).

The updates center on Ask Music, an in-app conversational assistant previously used primarily to generate mood-based playlists and personalized radio stations. Under the expanded rollout, listeners can query the tool directly about the context, influences, and production behind specific songs currently playing in their queues.

During an on-stage demonstration at the event, creator Derrick Gee showed how listeners can ask the assistant about the albums and tracks that inspired a song, or find which other tracks sampled it. The demonstration also highlighted granular credit queries, such as identifying the bass player on a track and surfacing other recordings featuring that musician.

The assistant will also link tracks to spoken-word audio, letting users locate podcast episodes that feature a song's artist or pull up additional details about the recording.

Alongside track-level queries, YouTube introduced a podcast discovery tool dubbed Your Podcast Lineup. The feature allows users to generate an AI-produced podcast that discusses and highlights other podcast recommendations tailored to their listening interests.

The additions indicate continued investment in YouTube Music's conversational search and audio tools as the platform integrates podcasts and conversational metadata deeper into its primary streaming interface.
