Early Buyers Report Screen Light Leaks on New Amazon Kindles
Users report visible LED strips and perimeter shadows across plastic and aluminum models of the updated base e-reader.

Early buyers of Amazon’s latest base-model Kindles are reporting screen lighting inconsistencies, including visible LED strips and dark shadows along display edges, according to reporting from The Verge (https://www.theverge.com/tech/1008833/amazon-kindle-light-leak).
The reports, originating from users on Reddit, indicate that the issue is most noticeable in dark environments with display brightness turned up, as well as when using dark mode. The new base-model Kindles feature a flush bezel design; while front-lit flush displays can exhibit subtle edge illumination, users report more pronounced artifacts resembling hardware defects.
The lighting issues appear across both plastic and aluminum models in all available color configurations.
Digital reading outlet Good e-Reader reported that Amazon is aware of the situation and confirmed that a manufacturing issue may have caused defects in the current batch of devices. Amazon declined to provide an on-the-record statement when contacted by The Verge.
