Microsoft has agreed to a 20-year, 1,100-megawatt power supply contract with NiSource to support its expanding artificial intelligence data center operations, as reported by Yahoo Finance (https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/ai/articles/microsoft-msft-facing-fresh-regulatory-191124990.html?.tsrc=rss).

The long-term power agreement comes as Microsoft faces regulatory developments in key markets. In the United Kingdom, the Competition and Markets Authority is preparing to designate parts of Microsoft's business software portfolio under a strategic market status label.

Concurrently in the United States, Microsoft, Apple, and Palantir are preparing for potential Congressional oversight and hearings focused on their partnerships and operational practices.

Securing direct energy supplies has become a focal point for supporting AI infrastructure. Analyst forecasts cited in the report highlight projected 2026 capital expenditures of $175 billion to $190 billion for Microsoft, driven by power and computing capacity requirements across Azure and Copilot.
