PureCycle Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: PCT) and packaging manufacturer IPL Schoeller have launched SnapPack Square EVO, a commercial line of sustainable tamper-evident packaging. Each unit contains 20% of PureCycle's PureFive recycled polypropylene resin, adding an off-the-shelf option to IPL's sustainable packaging catalog, according to a report by Yahoo Finance (https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/purecycle-pct-expands-purefive-regulatory-182105336.html).

The launch builds on an earlier collaboration between the two companies and Cleveland Kitchen, which yielded the first commercial food-contact grocery container made with PureFive resin. That container, introduced in June, incorporated 25% post-consumer recycled polypropylene and created a uniform base for broader retail deployment across packaging categories.

PureCycle applies its patented dissolution technology to supply the resin for SnapPack Square EVO. The material holds Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) Certification for post-consumer recycled content and has been recognized under New Jersey's Recycled Content Law. The pre-molded containers are intended to help brand owners meet regulatory thresholds without investing in custom packaging development.

The product rollout comes as packaging mandates expand across state jurisdictions. New Jersey requires covered rigid plastic containers to include at least 10% post-consumer recycled content, a threshold that rises to 20% in 2027 and 50% by 2036. While New Jersey has extended a temporary exemption for food-contact packaging through December 31, 2029, commercial offerings like SnapPack Square EVO provide an avenue for brands to integrate compliant materials ahead of enforcement dates.

Commercial scaling still faces execution and market risks. PureCycle's commercial growth remains sensitive to regulatory enforcement, where delays or revisions to extended producer responsibility rules could reduce brand demand. The company also faces operational hurdles in expanding PureFive output, navigating price and technical barriers against competitors, and scaling resin volume across categories.

Operational and financial strain appeared in PureCycle's second-quarter earnings. PureFive production fell sequentially to 4.5 million pounds during the quarter due to a planned maintenance turnaround at its Ironton facility. Adjusted EBITDA losses widened to $31.7 million from $27.8 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2025, alongside a quarterly net loss of $142.2 million. In response to growth requirements, management raised its full-year 2026 project spending guidance to a range of $45 million to $50 million, up from $39 million to $45 million.

Despite widened losses, institutional holdings increased in the second quarter. According to 13F filing data tracked by Insider Monkey, 40 hedge funds held PCT positions at the end of Q2 2026, up from 34 at the end of the first quarter. Yahoo Finance database records show Sylebra Capital as the largest institutional shareholder with 34.08 million shares (16.96%), followed by Abundance Wealth Counselors at 12.60% and BlackRock at 5.53%.
