Threads Tests Automated Podcast Transcriptions in Push for Audio Creators

Meta-owned microblogging platform Threads has begun testing new capabilities designed to assist podcast creators, including an automated transcription tool for audio clips, first reported by Engadget.

Threads platform head Connor Hayes revealed the test in a post on the service, demonstrating how the feature automatically converts spoken audio from uploaded clips into text. The addition allows users to read along with audio content directly in their feeds without needing to enable sound on their devices.

Hayes indicated that the auto-captioning feature is one of several tools currently in development aimed at improving how podcast content is shared and discovered across the network.

While features introduced during experimental phases are not guaranteed to see an official public rollout, the test reflects Meta's strategic focus on expanding utility for content creators. Podcasters have emerged as an increasingly important demographic for the service as it expands its feature set.

The current initiative follows previous updates intended to draw multimedia creators to the platform. In November, the primarily text-based social network rolled out specialized promotional resources targeted at audiovisual publishers.

The push into creator-focused functionality comes as Threads scales its global audience. The platform achieved a milestone in June when its user base surpassed 500 million monthly active users.
