Wi-Fi Alliance Filings Signal Potential PlayStation Portal Revisions from Sony
Certifications for two Android 15-based models suggest hardware updates amid rumors of an OLED screen.

Regulatory filings published by the Wi-Fi Alliance detail two unannounced PlayStation devices, signaling that Sony may be preparing revisions to its PlayStation Portal streaming handheld, according to a report from The Verge (https://www.theverge.com/games/1006092/playstation-portal-oled-wi-fi-alliance-certifications).
The listings classify both devices as "Gaming Console/Peripherals" under model numbers CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105, stepping up from the CFI-Y1001 designation used for the existing Portal. Both models are listed as running Android 15, matching the Android foundation of the original streaming device rather than the custom operating system used on the PlayStation 5 home console.
The appearance of the filings follows rumors of a display refresh for the handheld line. Hardware leaker KeplerL2 previously stated that Sony was working on an OLED version of the Portal for release this year, according to reporting by VideoCardz. The original PlayStation Portal debuted in late 2023 with an 8-inch LCD screen.
The certification data indicates that the new models may not include major wireless networking upgrades. The documentation specifies single-stream 1x1 Wi-Fi on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, omitting 6GHz Wi-Fi support and showing no signs of additional antenna capacity.
While Sony is expected to eventually introduce a portable device capable of running PS5 games natively on next-generation AMD graphics, the Portal functions as a thin client streaming games locally or from cloud servers. Addressing this approach in June, Sony stated that "cloud streaming also requires minimal memory, making it an increasingly attractive low-cost thin client device in the current market environment where memory prices are rising."
PlayStation did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and the regulatory records do not specify launch dates or official commercial product names.
