Charter Completes $34.5B Acquisition of Cox Communications and Liberty Deal
The deal unifies two of the largest cable and broadband providers in the United States following its initial May 2025 announcement.

Charter Communications has officially completed its acquisition of Cox Communications in a transaction valued at $34.5 billion, bringing together two of the largest broadband and cable television operators in the United States. The closing marks the finalization of a major consolidation effort across the domestic telecommunications industry.
The agreement, which was initially announced in May 2025, combines Cox's regional internet and cable assets into Charter's expansive operating network. The transaction required standard closing procedures and corporate approvals over the past year prior to its official completion.
In tandem with the Cox Communications takeover, Charter has also finalized its related transaction with Liberty Broadband Corporation, as first reported by Georg Szalai of The Hollywood Reporter. The completion of the Liberty agreement streamlines structural holdings between the entities alongside the broader asset integration.
The combination creates a unified broadband power with a significantly enlarged geographic footprint across U.S. residential and commercial markets. By incorporating Cox's existing customer base and infrastructure, Charter enhances its operational reach during a period of evolving competitive pressures in high-speed internet delivery.
The multi-billion-dollar deal highlights broader structural shifts in the enterprise and consumer telecommunications business. Legacy cable and broadband operators continue to pursue large-scale strategic acquisitions to increase efficiency, scale network investments, and strengthen market positioning against competing wireless and fiber networks.
With the simultaneous closing of the Cox acquisition and the Liberty transaction, Charter moves forward with integrating the combined infrastructure and subscriber bases under its overarching enterprise portfolio.
