German Startup Amber Raises €7 Million Series A to Unify Enterprise Knowledge for SMEs
The Aachen-based software company plans to expand into Benelux and advance its proprietary AI Data Layer to enable autonomous workplace workflows.

Aachen-based artificial intelligence platform amber has secured €7 million in Series A financing to accelerate its European expansion and enhance its internal knowledge software for small and medium-sized enterprises, according to reporting first published by Tech.eu.
Venture capital firm Ventech, an existing backer of the startup, co-led the funding round alongside NRW.Venture, the venture capital arm of NRW.BANK. Headquartered in Aachen, Germany, amber was established by Bastian Maiworm, Philipp Reissel, and Igli Manaj to build software that organizes corporate knowledge across disconnected enterprise environments.
The startup addresses operational hurdles encountered by organizations implementing generative artificial intelligence tools. Corporate information is frequently scattered across various software systems, which prevents AI models from understanding context and producing reliable outputs, while companies simultaneously face the loss of institutional memory when experienced staff members depart or retire.
To resolve these issues, amber built a proprietary architecture known as the AI Data Layer. The technology establishes a centralized contextual foundation by extracting and structuring data across cloud applications, emails, internal systems, and documents prior to running large language models. This process minimizes the volume of unstructured material that AI engines must analyze while enhancing response accuracy.
Through the platform, employees can locate internal documentation and organizational expertise without executing manual keyword searches across individual files or messaging channels. By understanding semantic context rather than simple search terms, the tool assists companies with preserving institutional wisdom, streamlining staff onboarding, and automating knowledge-intensive workflows.
Emphasizing the company's long-term product direction, leadership noted that workplace software must progress past basic conversational tools. "AI's next evolution is not another chatbot. The future belongs to systems that understand business context, recognise user intent and autonomously complete work. That's exactly what we're building with amber," the company stated regarding its development goals.
With the fresh capital, amber intends to kick off its broader European geographic push starting in the Benelux region. The cash injection will also fund further development of the AI Data Layer, expand integrations with corporate software stacks, encourage generative AI adoption among small and mid-sized businesses, and transition the platform from user-driven workflows to autonomous task execution.
