German AI Startup Amber Raises €7 Million Series A for Autonomous Business Intelligence Platform
Co-led by Ventech and NRW.Venture, the funding will support European expansion and further development of amber's enterprise AI data layer.

German artificial intelligence startup amber has secured €7 million in a Series A financing round aimed at expanding its enterprise knowledge platform across Europe and accelerating the development of autonomous workflow features, as first reported by EU-Startups.
The funding round was co-led by venture capital firm Ventech, which previously provided seed funding to the company 18 months ago, alongside NRW.Venture, the venture capital division of state development bank NRW.BANK. Founded in 2021 by Philipp Reißel, Bastian Maiworm, and Igli Manaj, the Aachen-headquartered firm provides small and medium-sized enterprises with tools to organize internal data and automate routine operational tasks in compliance with European data privacy rules under the GDPR.
Many business organizations face persistent operational friction due to proprietary information being scattered across disparate communication tools, cloud services, inbox archives, and internal databases. This fragmentation often hinders generative artificial intelligence models from accessing accurate context, leading to unreliable outputs or low token efficiency when processing unstructured enterprise documents. At the same time, companies suffer from the steady loss of critical institutional expertise as veteran staff members reach retirement age.
To address these data siloes, amber developed a proprietary software architecture known as its AI Data Layer. The platform unifies corporate data structures, keyword search functions, large language models, and digital assistants into a single system. By structuring internal company content before passing information to language models, the platform increases token yield, maintains strict data ownership boundaries, and enables automated agents to execute multi-step business procedures across connected corporate systems.
"Today’s AI tools are still waiting for users to ask the right questions. Our vision is fundamentally different," said Bastian Maiworm, co-founder and chief revenue officer of amber. "We have been building an AI platform that understands what’s happening inside a company, recognises what needs to be done and proactively supports employees by executing tasks autonomously. And we’re excited to have won such renowned investors to back our approach."
The company's software currently serves clients operating across several sectors, including manufacturing, engineering, IT consulting, and consumer packaged goods. Notable enterprise clients using amber's platform include industrial equipment maker Scheidt & Bachmann, confectionery producers Ritter Sport and Zentis, engineering firm Schüßler-Plan, household goods brand Dalli, and ladder manufacturer Hailo.
"AI’s next evolution is not another chatbot. The future belongs to systems that understand business context, recognise user intent and autonomously complete work," noted Philipp Reißel, co-founder and chief executive officer of amber. "That’s exactly what we’re building with amber and this funding allows us to accelerate that vision and bring it to businesses across Europe."
Ventech partner Nicolas Barthalon highlighted that the startup identified critical structural requirements early in the current generative AI technology cycle. "They have identified early three of the defining problems of this AI cycle: turning AI into a competitive advantage, lifting the token yield customers actually get from generalists models while preserving data ownership and finally enabling organisations to discover, govern, and scale the right agents, skills, and workflows amid accelerating AI sprawl," Barthalon said, adding that amber's contextual framework allows hundreds of corporate customers to manage autonomous agents concurrently.
Currently operating offices across Aachen, Cologne, and Tirana, amber plans to utilize the Series A capital to deepen platform integrations, advance autonomous AI workflow features, and expand its commercial presence across the Benelux region and broader European markets.
