Flutter Entertainment posted third-quarter financial results that fell short of Wall Street expectations on revenue and operating profit, driven by aggressive promotional spending in the United States and a major write-down following regulatory disruption in Brazil.

The quarterly results mark the first earnings report under chief executive Dan Taylor, who assumed leadership of the gambling conglomerate five weeks ago. With the company's shares down more than 60% year to date, Flutter is attempting to defend its market share against intense domestic competition while navigating international regulatory reversals that prompted management to cut full-year projections.

For the quarter ended September 30, Flutter generated $3.87 billion in revenue, up 2% from the prior year but below the roughly $4 billion consensus tracked by LSEG, according to reporting by CNBC Business (https://www.cnbc.com/2026/11/04/flutter-fanduel-promotions-q3-2026.html). Group adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization fell 25% year over year to $360 million. The company recorded a quarterly net loss of $1.15 billion, expanding from a $789 million loss in the third quarter of 2025. Adjusted loss per share landed at 18 cents, coming in narrower than the 28-cent loss projected by analysts.

The net loss included an $873 million non-cash impairment primarily stemming from Brazil, where authorities issued a provisional measure on September 25 banning online sports wagering and internet gaming. Flutter shuttered its Betfair operations in the country and paused uncommitted outlays, attributing $537 million of the post-tax impairment to group shareholders through its 56% holding in Flutter Brazil. The company also absorbed a $105 million increase in legal loss contingencies tied to an Australian class-action lawsuit.

In the United States, Flutter's FanDuel division delivered 6% revenue growth to $1.455 billion, but regional adjusted EBITDA fell 94% to $3 million. While sportsbook handle expanded 13% to $12.02 billion and sportsbook average monthly players grew 9%, sportsbook revenue rose just 4% to $817 million. Management attributed the margin compression to heightened promotional spending, which climbed 60 basis points to 6.0% of total handle after FanDuel rolled out an expanded nationwide rewards program in September.

Flutter is also directing marketing resources toward FanDuel Predicts, a prediction-market product designed to contest market share with platforms such as Polymarket and Kalshi. Following an infrastructure transition of sports contracts to Crypto.com within the FanDuel One App, October trading volumes on the predictions service rose 271% compared to July levels, adding 140,000 customers during the month. However, marketing investments and higher processing costs pushed group cost of sales expectations to approximately 58% of revenue for 2026 and into 2027.

To counter margin erosion, Taylor outlined an initiative to extract $500 million in gross operating cost and capital expenditure reductions by 2029 through technology consolidation, automation tools, and administrative restructuring across its global units.

Reflecting early fourth-quarter sports results and the Brazilian market exit, Flutter reduced its 2026 full-year revenue midpoint guidance by $300 million to $17.61 billion and lowered its adjusted EBITDA forecast by $160 million to $2.495 billion. The company has suspended its share repurchase program as it prioritizes paying down debt to bring its leverage ratio down from 4.6 times toward a target band of 2.0 to 2.5 times, with Taylor scheduled to provide a detailed strategic roadmap alongside fourth-quarter earnings in February.
