SpaceX President and Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell announced that she and her husband, Robert, will donate more than 2 million shares of SpaceX stock to children holding federal Trump Accounts starting in December, according to a report by CNBC Business (https://www.cnbc.com/2026/11/02/trump-accounts-spacex-shares-shotwell.html).

The distribution will provide one share apiece to approximately 2 million account holders between the ages of 11 and 17 who reside in ZIP codes where median family income is $57,000 or less, as well as areas where population density is too sparse for the U.S. Census Bureau to report income benchmarks. In an announcement on X cited by CNBC Business, Shotwell said qualifying households should begin receiving notices about the transfers immediately.

The stock donation takes direct advantage of a regulatory revision enacted by the U.S. Department of the Treasury in late September. Under temporary rules, federal 530A accounts—formally designated as Trump Accounts—are permitted to receive and hold donated individual corporate stocks. Prior guidelines restricted account holdings strictly to diversified, low-cost index funds.

Internal Revenue Service Chief Executive Frank Bisignano told CNBC in October that the regulatory shift was explicitly intended to encourage large-scale corporate and philanthropic equity gifts. Bisignano later announced his own targeted donation on Oct. 29 through the Bisignano Family Fund, granting shares to eligible children ages 2 to 8 in his native Brooklyn ZIP code of 11234.

Shotwell indicated that a secondary distribution will be finalized in the coming weeks. That expansion will cover eligible children ages 11 to 17 in military families stationed abroad, youth in foster care, and households with median family incomes of $90,000 or below located in Texas counties near her home. Program eligibility is managed through nonprofit advocacy organization Invest America, while families track holdings through the dedicated Trump Accounts mobile application.

Trump Accounts are statutory investment vehicles open to any U.S. child under age 18 with a valid Social Security number. For children born between 2025 and 2028, the Treasury Department provides a baseline one-time federal contribution of $1,000. Shotwell's planned gift precedes an even larger equity distribution proposed by SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk, who stated on X in October that he intends to grant a share of SpaceX to every child in the United States via Trump Accounts during 2027.
