Micron Technology is scheduled to report its fiscal year 2026 earnings on Wednesday, presenting a key test for the broader artificial intelligence infrastructure trade. The memory and storage chipmaker has seen intense revenue and margin growth fueled by demand for high-performance computing hardware, lifting its market capitalization to $1.22 trillion.

According to reporting by CNBC Business (https://www.cnbc.com/2026/09/28/a-key-test-looms-for-the-ai-trade-this-week-heres-how-mike-khouw-is-trading-it.html), options markets are pricing an implied stock movement of approximately 6% in either direction following the earnings release. For Micron, that percentage shift represents a single-day change in equity value of roughly $73.3 billion—an amount greater than the total market capitalization of General Motors, the 23rd largest company on the Fortune 500, and equivalent to Micron's entire corporate valuation three years ago.

The scale of the pending move reflects Micron's rapid financial transformation. The company's revenues have quintupled over the past two years and are projected to nearly double again next year. Adjusted net income has increased 10,686% over that two-year span. Looking forward, consensus expectations project next year's net income to reach $179.2 billion, up from $791 million reported in the fiscal year ended August 29, 2024—representing a 22,600% surge in adjusted net income across three years.

Micron currently trades at less than seven times estimated 2027 earnings, reflecting gross margins hovering near 86%. While pre-earnings channel checks have remained broadly positive, analysts note that such elevated gross margins historically encourage aggressive industry capacity additions, which can eventually lead to supply gluts and subsequent margin compression in memory markets.

Given expectations that the stock may remain range-bound between recent multi-month lows and its year-to-date highs, market analyst Mike Khouw outlined an options strategy targeting premium collection rather than directional movement. Khouw highlighted a November 900/1300 short-strangle strategy, which collected roughly $65 per contract as of Friday's close, representing about 6% of the share price over a seven-week window and an annualized yield of 40%.

Under that options structure, the breakeven thresholds sit at $835 per share (a 23% discount to current levels) on the downside and $1,365 per share (a 26% gain that would add nearly $320 billion in market value to reach a new all-time high) on the upside, generating an estimated 71% probability of profit. Disclosures noted that Tidal holds positions in the mentioned securities.
