German automaker Audi has unveiled the A2 E-tron, a new compact rear-wheel-drive electric crossover designed to combine an accessible entry price with low power consumption. Priced starting at £32,200 (approximately $45,000), the vehicle represents the brand's latest entry into the entry-level luxury electric vehicle segment. According to details first reported by The Verge, the model is scheduled for initial release in European markets, with no immediate plans announced for distribution in North America.

Engineering teams focused heavily on aerodynamic performance to maximize efficiency, resulting in a drag coefficient of 0.24. This figure marks the lowest aerodynamic drag rating achieved by a production model in Audi’s corporate history. Specific design elements contributing to the reduced air resistance include flush-integrated door handles, active cooling air intakes, a fully sealed underbody pane, and specialized gap-reducing trim components surrounding the wheel arches.

When configured with its most capable battery and single-motor rear-wheel-drive powertrain option, the A2 E-tron achieves an estimated maximum range of 401 miles (645 kilometers) under the European Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) standard. In its most efficient configuration, the electric crossover achieves a power consumption rate of 12.8 kilowatt-hours per 62 miles (100 kilometers).

The A2 E-tron introduces bidirectional charging capabilities to Audi's electric lineup for the first time. The infrastructure includes a vehicle-to-load feature accessible through a standard electrical outlet situated in the rear luggage compartment. Additionally, the system supports vehicle-to-home power export when connected to a compatible direct-current home charging station, allowing the vehicle's battery pack to supply energy back into household power networks.

The interior features a standardized curved MMI panoramic display setup mounted across the dashboard. The digital panel integrates an 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster situated directly in front of the driver alongside a 12.8-inch central infotainment touchscreen. The display architecture handles primary vehicle functions, telemetry, and media management through a unified glass interface.

Audi has also introduced a modular interior storage mechanism utilizing magnetic fastening technology developed by Fidlock. The system uses secure mounting points placed throughout the passenger compartment and trunk area, allowing users to attach various modular items such as cup holders and charging cable storage containers. While Fidlock hardware has previously been utilized in consumer products such as cycling equipment, Audi stated that the application in the A2 E-tron marks the technology's debut in a commercial production vehicle.

The introduction of the compact electric crossover follows Audi's decision last year to step back from an exclusive commitment to all-electric vehicle production. Instead, the company is pursuing a mixed product roadmap that balances battery-electric vehicles with internal combustion engines and plug-in hybrid powertrains. While the company has not confirmed whether the model will eventually cross the Atlantic to join vehicles such as the S6 Sportback E-tron in U.S. showrooms, Audi has not completely ruled out future market expansions.
