Ubisoft Unveils New Ghost Recon Chapter, Wildlands DLC, and Anniversary Events

Ubisoft has officially confirmed that the next installment in the Ghost Recon series is currently in development. This new chapter has been under construction for several years and is now prepared for private testing. A live producer, Irina-Gabriela Popa, stated the goal is to deliver an experience that is both fresh and fun, while adhering to the core tenets of the franchise: tactical action, large-scale operations, credible military narratives, and the iconic Ghost Unit.

In conjunction with this announcement, Ubisoft has released 'Last Rites,' a free-to-play downloadable content (DLC) for Ghost Recon Wildlands. This new story mission introduces a significant threat in Bolivia named La Llorona. Described as a "complex antagonist" with a profound backstory, La Llorona is on a path that encompasses both redemption and revenge, accompanied by her cult, Los Penitentes.

Creative Director Olivier Leonardia elaborated on the design of 'Last Rites,' explaining that the mission is crafted to keep players on edge. This involves incorporating elements such as limited visibility, challenging terrain, minimal support, and new gameplay mechanics that present a novel form of danger. Leonardia noted that the narrative will progressively reveal La Llorona's true nature, causing the mission to evolve into a more disquieting experience than initially perceived.

The development team aimed to create an experience with 'Last Rites' that honors the 25-year legacy of the Ghost Recon community. Leonardia expressed gratitude for the passion, dedication, and feedback from players, emphasizing that the mission is designed to feel authentic to long-time fans and celebrate the distinctive qualities of the franchise.

Furthermore, Ubisoft is implementing a 60 frames per second (fps) 4K resolution mode for Ghost Recon Wildlands on current-generation consoles and PC. This update will also include various other gameplay enhancements and features to improve the overall player experience.

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Ghost Recon series, Ubisoft is offering free access to Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Players can engage with these titles without cost from August 6 to August 10. Additionally, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will be available for free on PC via Ubisoft Connect between August 6 and August 13.

In September, the Ghost Recon Breakpoint 25th Anniversary Bundle will be released, providing free in-game items. This bundle will include the M4A1 Tactical Brown, the Wolf Enhanced Helmet, and the Opheis Mk.II Hunter, among other offerings.
