Technical details regarding Apple's display-equipped home hub recently emerged through analysis of Apple's operating system code. As reported by Engadget, references uncovered in a macOS 26.7 beta build point to an unreleased hardware platform internally designated as "HomeAccessory." The device is widely expected to represent Apple's entry into screen-bearing smart speakers.

Engadget's code analysis revealed that the device features a user interface modeled around "Faces" and a customizable "Face Gallery." Borrowing design elements from watchOS, the interface scales up watch-style visual layouts to a larger display format, integrating modular widgets and time-sensitive Smart Stacks that automatically update throughout the day.
